No Wake Zone
Growing up in the pond was often treacherous, but we stuck together. Occasionally a friend would be injured or sad and we’d hang a ‘No Wake’ sign on her lily pad to tell everyone to hop quietly.
I just finished making a ‘No Wake’ sign for Kate. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but these past few weeks have been a bit tough. She spent a few days in the hospital attached to an IV pole. And then, just when she was getting back to her normal self, she received some nasty test results. Her liver stopped responding to the treatment and, while everything else remained stable, she was told it was time to try a different treatment. This news sent Kate into a tailspin. She didn’t want eat, sleep, or even watch her favorite Matt Damon movie.
I was really worried about her last week, but then I read her recent blog post. It sounds like she’s okay with the various side effects that may accompany her new treatment and is ready to face this new challenge. She felt really bad for going into hiding and apologized for not returning my calls or emails. Needless to say, I was relieved to read that she’s back to her normal stubborn self. But, just to be on the safe side, please observe the ‘No Wake’ sign.
P.S.: Check out this incredibly moving post from NPR’s Leroy Sievers. ‘It all comes down to strength’ (but a little Lucky doesn’t hurt either).

Lucky with you by Kate’s side I’m certain there’s nothing you two can’t handle! Keep fighting….All of us who read her blog know that Kate’s A WINNER!!! A SURVIVOR!!!Kate, I am sorry you have to go through this but feel fortunate to have found your blog and look up to you . I am battling some health issues and find you and your determination to be a role model ..someone who has taught me not to give up and helped to instill that kick ass attitude that I needed to find….Thanks Kate! I pray for you and wish you only the best.
Much love to Kate. Thought, prayers and good vibes heading your way!
Kate: You can win this fight. Keep moving forward and remember we all love you.!!
I followed the PreppyDude trail to you from Twitter. Sending hugs and positive vibes your way. I was so touched by your blog and so proud of your spirit. You are simply amazing.
Hang in there, Lucky…. especially now. And if anyone goes speeding by, unaware that this is a tough time, point at that No Wake sign and tell them to just chill… because right now the lady needs a little peace and quiet. I’m glad you’re there, and glad she named you Lucky!!!!

Hey there, preppydude said to come give you some love and I do what he says! We’re all pulling for you out here whether you realize it or not! Hang in there cause you make us all proud!
I’ll be praying for you Kate! Stay strong and keep fighting. I know you will prevail. Thank you for the inspiration and for the courage you instill in your readers.
You are an inspiration to me.
Lucky, you are one Prince of a Frog, and your Princess is lucky to have you (though I wonder if a REAL Princess would wear a shirt that says Foxtrot, Uniform, Charlie, Kilo Cancer!) You ROCK, and I hope Dear Princess that your new chemo works well!
Three words that kept me going through my husbands diagnosis and treatment for PC:
Hope. Believe. Dream.

Lucky - I passed by you in the hall yesterday and I saw that no wake sign. I was wondering what that meant, but I didn’t want to interupt you. You looked like you were very focused on something, just sitting still on the desk without blinking. Anyway, how did you type this message and when did you learn English. You are amazing. I’ve never heard of a frog that can do the things you can do. I’d like to hear from you again. Are you female or male? I hesitate to say this, but I think you’re pretty cute.
P.S. Say hi to Kate or whatever.
Still praying for you Kate!
Kate: You’re in my thoughts and prayers every day. I’m looking forward to seeing you, Lucky, and the rest of the “Kate’s Ugly Shoes Team” again next October.
God bless you for all the inspiration you’re giving to so many people.
Just thinking of you and wishing the best for you! Hope you are doing well - your positive spirit is inspirational.
Kate,
We missed seeing you and Tim over Christmas. I’m never sure what the right words are, but we just want you to know that we love you, think of you every day - if not several times a day - and we know you have the fight in you to handle this. You’re such an inspiration.
